Swim England Insurance - Affiliated Clubs

As a Club you have a duty of care to all those participating in the sport and visitors. A club must do all it reasonably can to reduce or eliminate loss, damage or injury to others and it may be held legally liable to others if it fails to do so.

Your affiliation to Swim England provides you and your members with some insurance protection. 

Swim England Clubs and their members, registered with Swim England, are covered by a combined liability insurance. This protects affiliated members, teachers and coaches, officials and clubs if held responsible and are negligent for causing injury to someone else or damage to someone's property whilst undertaking swimming, diving and other aquatic activities recognised by Swim England. The combined liability insurance includes:

Public Liability & Professional Indemnity insurance

  • Protects the club and its committee and members against a claim made against you following loss, damage or injury to someone else or their property. Cover is provided by Hiscox Insurance Company Ltd and Zurich up to a maximum limit of £20 million.


Employers Liability insurance

  • Covers the club, or committee if held liable for an injury that an employee suffers during the course of employment. The policy includes injuries to volunteers and the maximum limit of cover is £10million. (limited to £5m in respect of Terrorism) This is a legal requirement for any club that employs people paid or unpaid. Cover is provided by Hiscox Insurance Company Ltd.


Director's & Officer's insurance

Covers club committee members/directors for their personal liability for any claims that are made against them for breach of duty to a maximum of £20m any one claim/per policy year. D&O cover is provided by Hiscox Insurance Company Ltd and Zurich, to protect club officials and committee members. Examples of breach of duty include:

  • Mismanagement of club finances
  • Breach of fire safety regulations
  • Corporate manslaughter.


Club Legal Advice and Expenses

Provides the club Committee/Directors with access to Legal Helplines on matters of European Law to help you manage your legal responsibilities at the club. The cover also extends to provide legal expenses for certain defence matters, including

  • Employment Disputes and Awards
  • Legal Defence
  • Property Protection
  • Bodily Injury
  • Tax Protection

It is essential that you obtain advice from DAS before you act to ensure that you do not prejudice your defence. If DAS have not been contacted prior to your action, they are unlikely to support the claim.

Club Members Personal Accident Insurance

As your members are affilitated to Swim England, those aged up to 85 also benefit from a basic Personal Accident insurance - This 'no fault benefit provides cover to Swim England members for death and permanent total disablement injury whilst taking part in Swimming, Diving and aquatic activities recognised by Swim England.

Please note cover is reduced for those aged 70 and over.

A weekly temporary total disablement from the persons regular gainful employment, benefit of £75 per week (max 104 weeks) is available to all members between the ages of 15 and 65.
